PHIL GOFF
First our apologies over the website today. We got overloaded. That's what happens when you give away phones.
An interesting email from Matthew Zacharias re Phil Goff on New Zealand's u turn on the Indian nuclear bomb: "He (Phil) also tried to justify the government’s decision to give in to the pressure from the USA and India to remove the nuclear sales ban on India. He mentioned obtaining a guarantee from India; but according to news reports from India, all that he got was a personal, verbal guarantee from Mr Pranab Mukerjee, the octogenarian Foreign minister of India, that India will not conduct any more nuclear weapon testing.
It was a lesson for me in aggressively bending the truth! "
Imagine if the Nats had buckled as Labour did after one phone call from George Bush! Phil would have been issuing press statements like there was no tomorrow. But then we haven't heard any policy from the Nats on the Indian bomb anyway. And didn't Guyon make a bloody good point when he asked why we oppose Iranian but endorse Indian nuclear facilities. (We also don't say anything about Pakistan or Israel either). Coupled with Mr Goff's enthusiasm for John McCain you have to wonder whether the rumbling you hear in the Beehive isn't David Lange turning in his grave.
